Lunar films.

We decided upon the name of our film company. The name we decided to use was "Lunar Films" to accompany this we have created multiple company logos and will get feed back on witch we should use. For out logo we used a bold and clear black and white colour scheme.
As part of choosing our name we did research into any per existing lunar films, due to our research we fount one company going by this name this company is an advert making company and it should be fine for us to use this name. However one of out designs is very similar to the preexisting company's logo and so it is unlikely that we will use this design.

Legendary Pictures production logo.

The Legendary pictures logo is a very simple and minimalistic logo. the logo contains the company icon and the company name.

The text is written in a very clear and large font, there is no ambiguity as to which company this belongs to as the text is large and well spaced this is an advantage as the company's logo is only shown for a limited time and so it makes it easy to understand and read for all members of society.
The colour scheme is heavily dependent on the film in question and what would fit within the genre and style. however the general scheme is a gold or silver colour on a black background, this is most common however it is not always the case. These bold colours are eye catching and draw you to the logo while the black background gives a sense of professionalism while maintaining the viewers attention on the important information in the logo.
The companys celtic symbol is a simple and memorable logo that can be instantly recognised as Legendary pictures. the icon itself also has its own meaning as it is a celtic symbol dating back to 5000 BC.  The use of a pre established symbol that has deep meaning and connection to eternity, unity and strength. the simplicity of the symbol is once again good as it helps the viewer to remember it and not be forgettable by being too complex but too boring by being very simple.
by using a symbol that has remained unchanges for a long time builds up brand recognition it is helped by the simpliciy yet unique nature of the symbol that is eisily remembered. Ever since the company was started in 2004 the logo has remained the same with slight variations between films to fit in to the setting.

This was used for the film 300. it is quite stylised and uses a stone look to seem old, this fits in to the films style.

This Logo was used in the film watchmen it is a dark and depressing logo on a stormy cloud background this helps add to the dark and depressing atmosphere along with the gritty aesthetic.

Initial shooting.

Our first attempt at shooting returned mixed results. It was good as it helped us to perfect our shooting technique and timing however the footage contained a few continuity errors and all of the footage was rendered useless as the weather worked against us, in the form of snow that started just after our initial shot and continued so that it accumulated over the course of he shoot.
We also realized the importance of choosing the right time and location for the set to not change along with paying greater attention to the mise en scene.

Evolution of the Lionsgate production logo - Jake

Here is the original Lionsgate films logo. Lionsgate used this logo in the late 90's, it is reasonably simple with a constellation lion, which links to the star sign of leo, which is well known as being a symbol of masculinity.
This was the updated version of the late 90's logo. I happen to not like these logos as they seem too cluttered and there is too much going on for the short amount of time it has been on.

This is the newer logo that came into use in 2004 up until 2005. I think this logo is okay, it reminds me of a science fiction type film, due to the slight blue/green glow and the size of the metallic initials.
This and the logo below are my favorite of the  logos that lionsgate have created. It's used in the horror films they make, as it is red much like blood. The font is bold and simple, which is a welcomed change from the cluttered layout of the late 90's design. The framing of the logo having Lionsgate in the centre, makes the viewer see it instantly, this is good because in the short time this information is on the screen, the audience has instant recognition of the logo.

This logo is almost identical to the last logo, only this is used for films that aren't horrors. Due to the white showing purity instead of the red showing violence and horror.

Opinions on the first shooting video - Jake

I think it's edited well to say we did it roughly in an hour. Of course, I think we are going to reshoot most, if not all, of the shots because of the massive contrast in the snow from the start to finish of the small clip. The video is just a template of what it could look like so the sound isn't that important. I think we broke the 30 degree rule a few times. We had a few jump cuts as well, which we were sort of going for, but it looks a bit rough so we might have to think of something else. We are thinking about changing the street to another on the other side of the alleyway which is quieter, so easier and quicker to shoot on. The light changed throughout, we're not sure if it's the exposure or the light was dimmed as it was cloudy that day. We also need to get new, better teeth as the teeth we used were incredibly annoying and were insistent on falling out all the time. The timing of the shots is pretty bad, and the sound will be edited with foley etc. at a later date.

First shoot

This is the product of Saturdays shoot. We will both make individual posts on our opinions.

Saturday Shooting - Jake

We decided that a weekend shoot would be best as we could have ample time to record all the shots we needed. Unfortunately we didn't factor in the weather aspect of the day. It turned out, as the day progressed, the snow increased until it was paramount to the film. I like the aspects the snow brought, but it was too erratic and so it meant, through a forty second section, the set went from a boring alleyway to a snowy wonderland. We may edit and upload the clips we recorded, but it is highly likely that we will reshoot on a different occasion.
